  Do they really want to give dogs on adoption? I was denied an application because of 2 thingst: First, a single house with a 4' fence is not safe enough, and when I said that the fence was going to be changed they asked me to check back in 2 months (when the job was done). We told them the dogs (ours and the new one) would stay inside (as my dog is at the moment) until changed. It was not enough. So my recommendation to everyone, don't apply if you live in an apartment.
  Second: I was told the animals would be left alone to long (6-8hours per day). My dog is given a 30' play time in the morning, walks in the evening, 2-3 runs per week (3 miles), dog park 2-3 times per week too and hiking in the weekend for about 10 miles, we want an active dog because we are an active family! But 6-8 hours alone was too much for an active dog? Seriously?? My recommendation, don't apply unless you stay home 24/7 not even if everyone else thinks your dog is super lucky to have so much activity and play time.
  
  Regardless to say we are approved by every other shelter we applied and we have no doubt we will find an amazing dog from a less snobby place.
  
  My recommendation to the shelter staff, your shelter is not special, there are many around that go far and beyond to get their dogs matched with a good family. Yes, you do a good job helping those animals, but we adopters do too!! Don't forget that. Without us those animals would never find a home. I see I'm not the only one with this opinion.
